Sarong Project
What is a sarong ?
A sarong is a wrap skirt made out a rectangular cloth and a classical way of dressing in South East Asia. There are sarong in many different execution and quality. We support the delivery of hand woven sarong made from natural coloured cotton. The sarong are made traditional way by experienced ladies. The sarong can be worn the traditional way , but also as beach wear.
Sarong are hand woven all over Thailand, but especilally in the North of the country. Many housewives make sarong at home on a classical weaving loom. The women use natural products and colour pigments; most of the time the colour their cotton themselves.
The Thailand Foundation is helping to set up a kind of cooperative export business for sarong under the name Sarong Original. We have helped them to make a website for Europe (and other parts of the world) to sell the original hand made sarong in different quality. Interested persons can order directly in Thailand and the sarong will be shipped directly to the customer. A person speaking English is handling the orders and shipment and communicating with the local makers. (Click on picture to enlarge).
The Thailand Folundation is also checking the quality on regular base and the line of supply, so decent prices are paid to the makers.

Covid 19 information: because of the problems caused by the Covid 19 pandemic Sarong-Original cannot send sarong to Europe by normal mail at this moment. In order to help the people making the sarong (who are suffering form the collapsed tourist industry) we are trying to get a larger shipment of sarong to Europe. Interested parties can already order sarong to be delivered at a later moment either through the Thailand Foundation (info@thailand-foundation.com).
